Then you'll want to explore the work of LISI and DOEN Participaties, focused on legal innovation that drives real-world impact.

Impact Investment Term Sheet

As an impact first investor, DOEN Participaties noticed that investment contracts contained a lot of legal agreements on amongst others financial return, control and protection of different parties. However, they did not properly incorporate agreements on impact protection and ways of working. For this reason DOEN Participaties has partnered with LISI to co-create open-source investment templates that make impact not just aspirational but legally enforceable.

Together with Rogier de Groot and Mirjam Niessen (Impact Investment Manager and Principal at DOEN Participaties), the LISI team reimagined how legal contracts can actively protect mission, reflect impact goals, and hold parties accountable. This work went far beyond tweaking clauses. It meant rethinking the contract as a strategic tool for transformation.

This collaboration marked a first: translating the principles of the Impact Term Sheet into fully developed legal documentation ready for use and now made available as open-source templates. By making the templates open source, DOEN Participaties and LISI want to inspire and enable impact investors to start using them. These templates incorporate impact at the right level and aim to establish a new standard for legal documentation for impact-driven organizations.
