What’s it like to work for the DOEN Foundation? Perhaps our colleagues are best qualified to answer this question. So, let’s introduce you to them! Today, we put five questions to Vos Vorstermans, Impact Investment Associate at DOEN Participaties.
1. What was your main reason for applying to work at DOEN?
In my opinion, DOEN Participaties is truly a unique organisation. Its investments are impact-driven and it champions a long-term vision. It also forges alliances with pioneers with innovative ideas, enabling them to grow and generate an impact over time. The focus lies on the initial stages of transition where the risk is greatest, but we’re prepared to take such a risk because of the potential for positive change. This approach appeals to me. I believe that DOEN Participaties offers the right platform to work professionally in the interests of creating a better world.
2. What do you like most about your job?
Discovering fresh, new perspectives by interacting with forward-thinking entrepreneurs and colleagues who are passionate about making the world a better place. I find this very inspiring and hopeful.
3. What do you think of DOEN as an employer?
I feel very welcome and valued at DOEN. There’s a nice, relaxed atmosphere at the office, there’s enough room for personal development and different opinions are always appreciated.
4. What are you most proud of about your job?
The open attitude and courage when it comes to financing – by stepping in at the early stages where it is often too risky for other financiers, but crucial for the entrepreneur – and DOEN’s long-term belief in the initiatives it supports.
5. Which initiative supported by DOEN/DOEN Participaties is your favourite?
Thanks to the players of the Postcode Loterij and the VriendenLoterij, DOEN supports so many amazing and important initiatives that it’s difficult for me to name just one. But, if I have to choose, I’d say Notpla. They produce degradable packaging materials made from seaweed extract, as an alternative to non-degradable, single-use and polluting plastic packaging. Among other things, they make edible pouches for drinks and sauces, coatings for paper cups and plates and packaging materials for dry (food) products. Notpla's products biodegrade in less than six weeks in a home compost or natural environment, and thus do not require industrial composting facilities.
